Research Notes

Hi John. I have done some work on your line; Margaret Hook was the daughter of Henry Hook of Edinburgh. Her grandfather was also Henry was baptised 27 Dec 1713 at Duddingston Edinburgh. [Formerly a village in its own right before being absorbed into the City of Edinburgh,]
John Turnbull 27 Oct 1775 was the son of Forster Turnbull 1745, and Eleanor Robson. You have a missing first son Forster b 1745 which would have put you on the right track.
There is a headstone of his grandfather Gilbert Turnbull at the main entrance to Whickham church, just on your left as you go in.
Best Wishes Albert Turnbull
