Biography

Chole, known as Lizzie, was born in 1875 in the community of Cottage in Dayton, Cattaraugus county, New York. She was the daughter of Spicer Hooker and Elizabeth Cadwell.

She was on the census with her parents in 1880 and 1892 in Dayton, Cattaraugus, New York.[1][2]

She lived with her sister Cora (Hooker) Pomeroy and her family in Brooklyn in 1910.[3] This census listed her name as "Chole" although that may have been a mispelling of "Chloe." She was listed as a public school teacher.

She passed away in 1910, three weeks after receiving injuries in a serious auto accident, according to an obituary published in the Fredonia (NY) Censor newspaper:[4]

"Death of Miss Lizzie Hooker

Miss Lizzie Hooker, who was injured in an automobile accident near Cherry Creek about three weeks ago, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 7, as the result of chloroform administered preparatory to an operation. She was 35 years old and is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spicer Hooker of Cottage, two sisters, Mrs. William Pomeroy of Brooklyn, who was injured at the same time but has recovered, and Mrs. Shannon of Perrysburg, also two brothers. She had been a teacher in Brooklyn for some years. Death occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Abbey two miles north of Cherry Creek, which was near the scene of the accident and to which Miss Hooker was taken at that time. The body was taken Wednesday evening to the home of her parents at Cottage, whence the funeral was held last Saturday."
