Elizabeth's parents emigrated from England, with their family of little girls. They fell on hard times, their mother and several of the girls dying within a short time after arriving in Australia.
Elizabeth was the first among three sisters to marry in Victoria. She married Fred Johansen, a miner. His family had emigrated from Holstein. Elizabeth's sister Harriett also married a miner, Bob Atkins, who entered into a form of partnership with Fred Johansen.
Elizabeth died in 1936 in Caulfield, Victoria, aged 89 years.[1]
