Biography

Little Caroline was about 3 years old when her family left England to migrate to Australia. About a month after they arrived in Melbourne, the mother died while giving birth to another daughter (dec.)

Caroline died about three months later

  • Immigration to Victoria 1852-1879, Index to Inward Passenger Lists shows her arrival in November 1852 on the ship 'Chalmers'. She was aged 3 years. Information from the Public Record Office, Victoria's Archives, Fiche 018, page 004.
  • Letter in family archives: written by her father from Melbourne in August 1853, to his sister-in-law in England (Caroline Day). In the letter, John mentions the death of his daughters Caroline and Clara, and also his wife.
