Note N33SOURCE: Dori Hooper, , 07Sep2001 "Joseph F. Hooper was born 10/26/1826, IL. He died 1908, Locke, Crawford, AR, while in residence with his youngest son, Jethro Madison Hooper. Joseph joined the Army when he was 11 years old. He fought in the Mexican War, and is listed on the Roster of Soldiers. He did get grant land in AR, 1860. 80 acres filed in the Dardenelle Land Office, and 80 acres filed in the Clarksville Land Office. We know that Joseph F. Hooper was married before he joined the Union Army, Civil War. He fought in H-1 Ark Infantry. His unit later became part of the Illinois 63rd. When Joseph returned from the war, his wife had died, and he could not locate his sons. We have been told that there were 5 sons. But, can only verify one from family. Joseph located Pink Hooper, living in the Oregon Territory, 1888. It is believed, by my family, that Joseph F. Hooper spent all of his adult life in AR, with the exception of the year 1888, when he, and family went to live in OR Territory by Pink for one year. They did not like Oregon, and returned to AR. Joseph, in 1895, received 80 acres, registered in the Dardanelle Land Office, which we believe to be the property in Crawford County, but are unsure. Sometime in the 1870s, Joseph F. Hooper married Isbella Indiana Hayes. Her father was Marion Hayes. She was known as Indiana "Belle", b. 4/8/1849, and died 8/251935, Sebastian Co., AR. It is believed that they are both buried in Locke Cemetery.".
