Caroline Hewett was born in 1840 in Roche, Cornwall, England to Martha Hewett, who was unmarried at the time.
Caroline Hewett, daughter of Martha Hewett, was christened on 18 Apr 1840 in Roche.[1]
In 1841 Caroline Hewett (age 1) lived at Molinnes Moor in St Austell, Cornwall with her grandfather James (50-54, Tinner), grandmother Betsy (50-54), mother Martha (25-29), and five aunts & uncles: John (20-24), Joseph (15-19), Ann (15-19), Samuel (14), and Sampson (10).[2]
Caroline's mother Martha Hewett married Matthew Hooper in 1842. After which, Caroline went by Caroline Hooper - it is possible that Matthew was her father.
In 1851 Caroline Hooper (age 11) lived in Roche with her [step?]father Matthew (35, Blacksmith), mother Martha (34), and four [half-?]siblings: Ann (8), William Henry (6, Scholar), Mary Jane (4, At Home), and Miriam (2).[3]
