NOTE: Nancy is implicated in a fraudulent 1935 genealogy which gives her false native ancestry and false connections to American politicians, including President Hoover. See below and this analysis of the fraud.

Biography

Firstly, this Hoover/Yount family, that Franklyn is playing with, here, is the family of President Herbert Hoover, the great-grandson of Jesse Hoover and Rebecca Yount. So, even if Franklyn could connect his mother to this family, it has been shown that the Younts were indeed a Dutch Quaker family. This entire Native American back story, for the Yount family, is a blatant fabrication.

Secondly, Franklyn's great-grandmother, Rebecca, wasn't even a Yount.

We can find Franklyn's mother, Mary Ellen Blaine, with her parents, on the 1860 and 1870 US Censuses. In 1860, they are in Noble, Indiana,[1] then, in 1870, they are in Allegan, Michigan.[2] The father's name is "James Blain", and the mother's name is "Nancy J". Nowhere does she ever seem to be recorded as "Nandachine". Mary Ellen has siblings, named Samuel P, Elisabeth J, and Clara.

Nancy Jane Hoover can then be found with her parents, "Jesse" and "Rebecca" on the 1850 US Census, in Whitley, Indiana. However, the parent's surname is listed as "Hand", not Hoover. It is also the surname of 4 out of the 8 children, the other 4 having the surname "Hoover". The Hand children's and the Hoover children's birthdays also overlap each other. This is the blended family of two widows, with 4 children each.[3]

Nancy Jane, by the way, has no sister named Millicent. She has a sister, here, listed as Amelia M Hoover, and a later record seems to show the M stands for Mary. Amelia is also sometimes listed as Permelia. Whether Amelia, or Permelia, this is where the nickname "Millie" seems to have come from, not Millicent.

The two girls have 2 more siblings, named Sarah E, and David. They also have 2 half-siblings, Amos and James William Hand, and 4 step-siblings, Daniel, Jonathan, Lemuel, and Rebecca Hand. Amos and James don't appear with parents Jesse and Rebecca, until the 1860 US Census. All the older children, except Jonathan Hand, have left the home by this time.

Unfortunately, tracking wives and children, via censuses, becomes fairly impossible, prior to 1850, when they just listed the head of household and numbers of people. Fortunately, Franklyn gives us a hint, that allows us to prove his own tale false, from this side of things...without needing the Presidential genealogists, biographers, librarians, etc., to prove him a fraud. That hint is the burial place of dear grandaunt Millie, and the fact that she remarried.

On January 1st, 1860, "Amelia Hoover" (Not Millicent) marries "Moses Daisey" in Kosciusko, Indiana.[4] Then, in 1886, widow "Millie Daisy" marries "Samuel J Bonewit", in Hagar, Berrien, Michigan,[5] where most of the Daisy children are also living.

We can then find death and cemetery records for "Millie Bonewit".[6] She died on October 5th, 1906, in Pipestone, Berrien, Michigan (Michigan, Deaths and Burials Index, 1867-1995). Her parents are listed as father, "Joseph Hoover", and mother, "Hooper".

Using those parent names to search for her other siblings' records, we come up with a record for one "Nancy Jane Maloy". She died on June 14th, 1910, in Bertrand, Berrien, Michigan (Michigan, Deaths and Burials Index, 1867-1995).[7] Her parents are listed as father, "Joseph Hover", and mother, "Rebekah Hooper".

Franklyn didn't tell us that grandma remarried, but indeed she did. On June 24th, 1899, in Eau Claire, Berrien, Michigan, "Michael Maloy" married widow "Nancy J Hoover Blaine".[8] And, the man so many people are trusting for their extensive native oral history, has proven to be a fraud, not 3 generations in. According to researcher, John Quinn Doer, Franklyn didn't get the Blaine ancestry right, either, but it's irrelevant to the Native American myth.
