Biography

This person is an ancestor of President Millard Fillmore[1]

Birth

Hopkins; Tabitha, d. Ebenezer & Susannah, b. Oct 16, 1745. Harwinton Vital Records; [2]

Note

Kyle Dane: After reviewing the birth records of the entire family of Ebenezer and Susannah Hopkins (See "Family" Section of http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Messenger-152) I believe the date of birth of either Tabitha or sister Hulda is incorrect in the Barbour Collection transcription - if correct, Tabitha would have been born only 7 months after her sister. My suspicion is that Tabitha was born earlier than Hulda, because her record appears on page 4 with Elias and Susannah who were born in 1741 and 1743, while Hulda's appears on page 5.

Marriage

Tabitha Hopkins; spouse: Abithar Miller; date: 20 Sep 1761; place: Amenia, NY[3]

Tabitha Hopkins; born 1745 in CT; spouse: Abiather Millard; born 1744 in MA; marriage year: 1761; marriage state: NY[4]

Family

"Dr. Abithar Millard (as he spelled his name) was born June 22, 1744:, at Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He married Tabitha Hopkins, who was born Oct. 16, 1745, daughter of Ebenezer Hopkins of Harwinton, Conn., afterwards of Pittsford, Yt. Soon after their marriage they went to reside in Dutchess Co., N.Y., where their first child, Abithar, was born, May 6, 1763. Tabitha was born March 4, 1765 ; Lydia, Oct. 14, 1768 ; Huldah, March 5, 1773 ; Sarah, January 18, 1775; Olive, May 5, 1778 ; Phoebe, Aug. 12, 1781 ; Jesse, Oct. 6, 1784 ; Almon H., April 19, 1788. With the exception of the first, the record does not state where the above children were born. It is evident that Dr. Millard located in Pittsford in the spring of 1788." (page 226) [5]

"He soon after purchased Lot No. 9, of the Town Plot, or what is now the southwest corner of the lot owned by C. A. Hitchcock, being nearly identical with the garden west of the present house. He cleared this lot and built upon it a house which was probably the fourth then standing on 'Blackberry Hill.' The house was a small one hastily constructed, and it was occupied as soon as it was completed, and the youngest child, Solomon Eddy, was born here Feb. 17, 1789." (page 226)[6]

"We know nothing of his (Dr. Abiathar Millard's) education, or of his ability as a practitioner, nor of the extent of his professional business, but it is evident from the records that much of his attention was given to land speculation. He removed from the town about the year 1808. His sixth daughter, Phebe, born August 11, 1781, married Nathaniel Fillmore, and was the mother of Ex-President Fillmore." (page 593)[7]

Susannah mentioned in the record of Tabitha Hopkins Name: Susannah Sex: Female Husband: Ebenezer Hopkins Daughter: Tabitha Hopkins Other information in the record of Tabitha Hopkins from Connecticut Births and Christenings

Name: Tabitha Hopkins Gender: Female Birth Date: 16 Oct 1745 Birthplace: HARWINTON TWP,LITCHFIELD,CONNETICUT Father's Name: Ebenezer Hopkins Mother's Name: Susannah Connecticut Births and Christenings, 1649-1906," Hulda March birth and Tabitha October birth were born eight months to each other. This software will not allow Hulda to be put into the system. Since there are no death records for either daughter but there is a death record that Susannah died giving birth to Tabitha it is safe to think that Susannah didn't carry one of them to full term and died giving birth to Tabitha. We don't know if Hulda got married so she could have died at birth since there is no record but Tabitha did get married. Tabitha Hopkins; spouse: Abithar Miller; date of wedding: 20 Sep 1761; place: Amenia, NY[3] and Tabitha Hopkins; born 1745 in CT; spouse: Abiather Millard; born 1744 in MA; marriage year: 1761; marriage state: NY[4] Since there are records of both births you can decide if there was an error or if there was an early birth. We won't know which girl was early term but it doesn't mean that the records are wrong.
