Joshua Hopkins was the son of Dennis Hopkins and his wife Elizabeth Debruly.
Joshua is named in his father Dennis Hopkins' will signed on 19 February 1739 in Talbot County, Province of Maryland. In his will he provided: "To sixth son Joshua Hopkins after my wife's decease the plantation whereon I now live with the land belonging, being 106 acres, part of London Derry, and also after her decease or when she shall think fitting my Negro girl called Phillis, one cow and calf, one feather bed and bolster with rug and blankets or sheets to make his part even with the rest that have received theirs." Joshua Hopkins & Sarah Watts, Marriage - St. Peter's Parish Church |
Joshua Hopkins wed Sarah Watts firstly - it seems - on 10 August 1739 in Talbot County, Maryland. [2] [3] They were married (again) six days later, on 16 August 1739, at Saint Peter's parish church (Anglican/Church of England), Easton, Talbot County, Maryland. [4] [5]To this marriage were born several children, amongst whom:
On 28 April 1746 Joshua & Sarah were witnesses to the Will of Robert Hopkins; records state that they belonged to the Society of Friends (Quakers).
Joshua was taxed on London Derry property from 1748 to 1759.
In 1761 Joshua's wife Sarah was taxed on the property; therefore, Joshua died in 1760.
Note: there is a Joshua Hopkins on the 1790 Talbot Census - this may be his son ???
