Biography

George Hopkinson was born in 1856 in Headon cum Upton, Nottinghamshire, England to John Hopkinson and Eliza (Doncaster) Hopkinson. His birth was registered in East Retford, Nottinghamshire in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Doncaster.^[1]

In 1861 George Hopkinson (age 4, Scholar) lived in Headon cum Upton with his father John (43, Publican), mother Eliza (44, Publicans Wife), and six siblings: Thomas (19, Agricultural Servant), Elizabeth (15, Household Work), Lucy (14, Household Work), Martha (9, Scholar), James (7, Scholar), and William (2).^[2]

In 1871 George Hopkinson (age 14, Son Farm Boy) lived in Headon cum Upton with his father John (58, Innkeeper & Farmer), mother Elizar (55), sister Marther (20), brother William (12, Son Farm Boy), and niece Lucy Ellis (2).^[3]

George's wife passed away in 1932: "HOPKINSON Phoebe of Askham Nottinghamshire (wife of George Hopkinson) died 14 January 1932 Administration (with Will) Nottingham 30 August [1935] to Edward Smith Spencer solicitor. Effects £450."^[7]
