Mrs. America Evelyn Hopper Maxwell, 95 years, 2 months, and 6 days, died June 3 at the family home. She had been confined to a wheel chair the past 7 1/2 years following a broken hip received in a fall. "Mrs. Maxwell was born in Humansville, Mo. March 28, 1860 and was married to Henry Clay Maxwell in 1876. She and her husband and two small daughters crossed the plains by wagon train in 1880. During the trip one little girl died and was buried in Kansas. They settled in Idaho and later came to Wapato in 1901 and to Toppenish in 1928. Mr Maxwell died in 1935. "She was a member of the Oldtimers club of Wapato. "Mrs. Maxwell had eleven children, and is survived by five daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. E.J. Robart, Mrs. Sylvia Richter and Mrs. Sally Moore, all of Toppenish; Mrs. Goldie Pinkerton of Yakima and Mrs. Evelyn Brown of Bellingham; Archie Maxwell of Moxee and Walter Maxwell of Soap Lake. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.
