William was a papermaker. Paper was produced in a converted corn-mill at Yardley Gobion, Northamptonshire. England.

He lived in the Sharp household in 1841aged 76 working as a hawker, a door-to-door salesman of small domestic items such as pins, needles, thread, buttons, pegs and the like.
