Biography

Winfield Scott Horner was born on August 15, 1854 in Overton County, Tennessee to William Barton Horner and Harriet Jane Cobble.

Winfield married Emily Elizabeth Pierce on July 29, 1880 in Hamblen County, Tennessee. Winfield and Emily had five known children. Marion Curtis, Orlando Malone, Nannie Bertha, Mary Temmie and John Elmer. Four of the children were born in Tennessee by 1888, John Elmer was born in 1892 in Fannin County, Texas.

Winfield's first wife Emily passed away in 1894 near Caddo Mills, Texas while traveling north, returning home to Fannin, Texas. Her final resting place is an unknown location near Caddo Mills, Texas.

Winfield married a second time to a widow by the name of Mahulda Capurnia (Hutchins) Lowery on February 9, 1897 in Fannin County, Texas. Winfield and Mahulda had eight know children together. Ola Ethel, twin daughters/Arizona and Artinie, Moy Winfield, Theodore Roosevelt, Ross, Lillie Mae and Charles Herbert.

Winfield passed away on May 30, 1921 in Temple, Cotton County, Oklahoma and is buried at the Temple Masonic cemetery.
