Biography

James, married first wife, Hannah Horner (daughter of Joseph Horner)and moved to Washington Co. Pennsylvania. They had a daughter who died December 12, 1804. Son, Joseph was born April 4,1806, but Hannah died after childbirth. James took Joseph to settlement to be cared for by family members. The 2 lived there 1806-1807 to 1840, when James leaves for Lancaster and leaving Joseph behind. James then marries second wife Susan Downing 1841 and they return to the settlement until his death in 1866 in his 84th year. He was also known as Old Squire Clyde.

James' son, Rev. John C Clyde, was a preacher and author, residing in Bloomsbury, New Jersey.
