Biography

Thomas Horton was born about 1602 at Mowsley, Leicester, England.
He immigrated from England to the colonies in America via the ship 'John & Mary' about 1632-1633 and they settled in Springfield, MA having departed Windsor, CT in 1638.[1][2]

On July 15, 1636, Thomas Horton witnessed an Indian Deed for the town of Springfield (Agawam) to William Pynchon, Henry Smith, and Jehu Burr.[3][4]

Children:
  1. Jeremy Horton, first mentioned in records in 1661. Died at Springfield in 1782[1682?].[3]
  2. John Horton, son of Thomas, first mentioned in records in 1661.[3]

THE Hortons in America names a third son Thomas.[5] However, he is probably the son of Thomas of Milton.[6]

He died in 1640/41 in Springfield Massachusetts.[6]

Cheryl, I think you have cleaned him up, he was connected to Mary Eddy at one time. Thanks for the untangling and caution notes.

Since in 1636 this Thomas Horton of Springfield was a witness to the purchase of Indian lands, I will make him a part of the PGM project.

I will add the project box.

Hi Michael, I've been working on this profile today.

Please explain what on this profile has been conflated with other Thomas Horton/Orton and Mary Eddy.

Thanks.

Sources for Thomas Horton who married Mary (Unknown) Ashely are generally found in the source material for Robert Ashley. This Thomas has been conflated with other Thomas Horton's/Orton and Mary Eddy.

Benjamin Harrison, hello.

Since I have communicated with you, in a private message, about the Horton family, will you please detach these "parents" from this Thomas Horton? I thank you so much for trying to get at the truth for this family. Cheryl

Thomas Horton should be detached from parents that are presently shown. Mary (Schuyler) Horton is a part of the Horton fraud that is all over the internet. She never existed.

Libbeus Horton's wifes name was Mary (Unknown) Horton. According to Jacqueline Dinan in her 2015 book "In Search of Barnabas Horton," p. 266, Libbeus did not have a son named Thomas. Horton-2631 and Horton-230 are not ready to be merged because: There seems to be a lack of documentation for all the early Horton families being connected. No connection of Thomas of Springfield to Barnabas of Long Island that I know of ? Nor any of the others listed as siblings? If I am correct then Horton-230 needs correcting and/or sources.
