Biography

Jacob was probably born in Baltimore, MD and came to Kentucky with his parents about 1792. He claimed 997 arpens (about 852 acres) in the St. Charles District from the U.S. government in February 1806. This suggests that he had received a Spanish land grant, but the grant has not been located. The description of the land in the claim cites that it was located 27 miles north of St.Charles on the Mississippi bluff. This matches the description in a deed[1] made by Jacob's son, John, in 1819 when he sold part of this land.

Jacob is mentioned numerous times in court order books in St. Charles County, between 1805 and 1813.

Jacob died in St. Charles County, MO before 12 March 1813 when his brother Isaac was appointed[2] administrator of his estate. Jacob's heirs and information about his estate appears in his probate file[3].
