Biography

Azel/Asahel HOUGH was born 5 July 1761 in Norwich Twp, New London, Conneticut^[1] the child of David Hough and his first wife Desire Clark.

He served as a pvt in Capt. Nehemiah WATERMAN's Comp, Col Zebediah ROGER's Regt of CT Militia for 3 mos in 1776, then again for two and 1/2 months in 1779 in his brother-in-law Capt WATERMAN's Company, Col Samuel ABBOTT's Regt, then 3 months in the same regiment in 1780, and for two months in Capt CONE's Comp during several alarms. He apparently did not prove he served six months as his application for pension was rejected as R5253.

On 12 Oct 1791 in Lebanon, Grafton, New Hampshire, Azel Hough md (1) Mary "Polly" EDGERTON (c 1771 CT - d 1800) in Lebanon, NH^[2], daughter of Asa EDGERTON. Polly EDGERTON was half-sister to Lydia EDGERTON who md Daniel HOUGH of CT and VT.

Azel Hough (b. 28 Apr 1796 Plainfield, Sullivan Co, NH - 8 Oct 1856, St Johnsville, NY) on 1 Aug 1824 in Montgomery Co, NY, Minden twp RDC at Fort Plain, md Fanny SALTSMAN (29 Dec 1796 - aft 1870) and lived in St. Johnsville, NY. He was a member of the NY State Assembly in 1834. Ch incl John Edgerton; Ezra; Albert; Norman; Gordon; and Walter Azel. In 1808 Azel md (2) Susenna FARR ( ), Children:

4. Ezra Hough (1798-Plainfield, Sullivan Co, NH - 1826 Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire) married Rebecca Coleman of Hanover, lived in Royalton, VT
5. Walter Hough (b. 10 July 1810 Plainfield, NY - 13 Sep 1893 Cortland, NY) on 3 Mar 1847 md Eliza KLOCK and was a schoolteacher who taught at St. Johnsville, Homer, and Cortland, NY. Ch incl Fanny; Ezra; and Emma.

Azel HOUGH applied for pension 30 Aug 1837 from Bozrah, New London Co, CT, at age 76.
