Agnes Houlahan was born in 1704 in Londonderry (Derry) in Ulster, Ireland. Her parents' names are not known.[1] In about 1720 when she was 16 years old, Agnes married Francis Boggs, a Scotch-Irishman, in the city of Londonderry, Ireland. In 1724, the entire Boggs family of 5 siblings along with their widower father, James Boggs, emigrated from Ulster to New Castle County, Delaware.
Francis Boggs was a miller, operating a grist mill first in White Clay Creek Hundred, New Castle, Delaware, for a dozen years, then, after his father died on Feb. 9, 1737, in Delaware, moving northwest to East Fallowfield Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, where he and John Filson founded the Doe Run Presbyterian Church on Strasburg Road. The West Branch of Brandywine Creek runs through the township, located just south of Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
Agnes (Houlahan) and Francis Boggs had 7 children:[2]
William BOGGS b: 1721 in Londonderry, Ireland
Robert BOGGS b: ABT 1722 in Londonderry, Ireland
James Charles BOGGS b: ABT 1725 in New Castle Co., Delaware
Francis BOGGS Jr. b: 1732 in New Castle Co., Delaware
Ezekiel BOGGS b: 1734 in New Castle, Delaware
Agnes BOGGS b: 1735 in New Castle Co., Delaware
Samuel BOGGS b: 1737 in New Castle Co., Delaware
In 1737 Francis & Agnes Boggs moved their family to East Fallowfield Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, where he ran a grist mill on the West Branch of the Brandywine River. They were devout Presbyterians of Scotch-Irish tradition. Francis Boggs died at their home in Doe Run, East Fallowfield Twp., Chester, Pennsylvania, in April 1763. His wife and oldest son, William Boggs, made a bond as his estate's executors, signed May 11, 1763. Agnes died a short time afterwards, most-likely in 1763 or 1764.
