John was the son of ??
Circumstantial evidence points to, John Heyward of Virginia, "having come from Newark in Nottinghamshire" (Howard, 1949, p. 1)[1] He immigrated to Virginia in 1636.
This family of Howard's were near relatives to one of the colonial Governors of that name, Francis Howard, Baron of Effingham. (Francis was born in England about 1630 : d . there , 30 March, 1694.) He was the son of Sir Charles Howard , and the barony of Howard of Effingham reverted to him in 1681. In 1684 -89; he was governor of Virginia , and during the early part of his administration, which was exceedingly rapacious and cruel, the colony suffered greatly from Indian depredations . He concluded a treaty with the tribes at Albany, N. Y. , which was ratified in 1685. He forbade the use of printing-presses in the colony.[2]
John married Margaret Clark(e) in York County, Virginia in 1650.
John Hayward/Howard was a member of the Virginia House of Burgess.
John wrote his will in May 1660. Mentioned are sons Henry, William, daughter Eleanor, wife Margaret. [4] His will was proved in Apr 1661.
John passed away in York County, Virginia in Feb 1661, with his Will being proved in April of that year.
John Heyward of York, colony of Virgina is not a son of Lord William Howard of Naworth and Frances Gouldwell, or Sir Francis Howard and Lady Jane Monson. Born of those couples were disproven long ago.
This can also be deduced from the fact that Lord Howard's son, Sir Francis Howard of Corby is not John Heyward's brother. Sir Francis Howard of Corby Castle in the county of Cumberland, lived and died in Europe.
The subject of this profile had a brother -- Francis Heyward ... and he established his home in Virginia, and died in the American colony.
Visit the profile of John Heyward (Hayward), the Virginia colonist. who is probably the same person but wrong dates.
Do not conflate as per the notes left by others, this family were "near relatives" only. See "Relatives" above. Note: The children of Lord William Howard were born at Mount Pleasant house in Enfield Chase, Middlesex.[3] It's about 105 miles or 168.95 KM between Middlesex and Nottinghamshire [4]
