Born in Lancaster 25 Jan 1737, the son of Phineas Howe and Abigail Bennett .[1] He married 2 Feb 1764 Abigail Moore, daughter of Isaac and Mary Moore, born in Boylslton on 27 Aug 1743.[2] They were admitted to the church in Boylston 23 Sep 1764. He died in Boylston 10 Sep 1817.[3][4] His will, dated 5 March 1813 and proved on 23 Oct 1817 mentions his children Levi, Ephraim, Silas, Abraham, Abigail Fairbanks, Persis Hastings, Tamar Lamson, and John.[5]
Silas is interred at Old Burial Ground in Boylston, Worcester County, Massachusetts.[6]
The part of Lancaster, Massachusetts where this family lived later (1786) became part of the new town of Boylston, Massachusetts. Sources may differ on which town events occured within, and the differences can be explained by the 1786 incorporation into the new town.
Vital records for Boylston disagree on his death date. One collection lists his death as 10 October 1817 and another (handwritten) lists 10 Sep 1817. The Howe Genealogies list the October date. Find A Grave records list the September date, and a newspaper dated 8 Oct 1817 (see Sources) list the September date. Although his will was proven on 23 Oct 1817, the earlier date seems more likely.
