Douglas N. Howe was born on 31 Oct. 1832[1] at Massachusetts, USA. He appeared on the census of 16 July 1850 in the household of his parents, Amasa and Lucinda Howe at Manlius, Onondaga County, New York.[2] He was a cooper when he appeared on the census of 4 June 1855 in the household of his parents at Manlius, Onondaga County, New York.[3]
He married Huldah Griffin, daughter of Gaylord Griffin and Marium (Crants) Griffin[4], circa 1859.
He was a cooper when he and Huldah appeared on the census of 17 July 1860 at Manlius, Onondaga Co., New York.[5] He was a farmer when he and Huldah appeared on the census of 11 July 1870 at Manlius, Onondaga Co., New York. [6] He appeared on the census of 15 June 1875 at Manlius, Onondaga County, New York.[7] He was a farmer when he appeared on the census of 9 June 1880 at Manlius, Onondaga Co., New York.[8] He was a gardner when he appeared on the census of 1 Feb. 1892 at Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York.[9]
In 1894 Douglas was seriously hurt in an accident while driving a horse and wagon. The city and railroad were sued and he did receive a settlement, but died shortly after on 2 March 1897 at age 64 at his home in Syracuse, Onondaga County, and was buried at Collamer Cemetery, DeWitt, Onondaga County, New York. His memorial has a photo of his gravestone. Huldah is buried near him.[1]
