Born in Dorchester, Mass., 21 April 1746; married 31 Oct. 1769, Patience Blake, daughter of Samuel and Patience (White) Blake, born 15 Feb. 1746. They lived in Dorchester where she died 24 Feb. 1810. ' He was a shoemaker, farmer ,and a brickmaker, and lived on the lower road, nearly a half mile south of Meeting House Hill. The Blake Genealogy says "I will here remark that formerly Dorchester was noted for the great quantities of brick of superior quality that were manufactured by its inhabitants. I have been informed that part of the brick in the present Massachusetts State House were made by Mr. Howe on his farm." He was called "gentleman" in 1789.[1]
