Born in Hillslborough, N. H., I Feb. 1773; married 17 Oct.
1793, Mary Wait, born in Athol, Mass., 14 Nov. 1772, and
died in Great Valley, Cattaraugus Co., N. Y., 10 Oct. 1868,
aged nearly 96 years. Between 1805 and 1807 they left Hillsborough, and settled in the town of Phelps, Ontario Co., N. Y. He served in the war of 1812, and during the war was made Captain of a company in the 71st N. Y. His commission as Captain is now [1929] in the possession of his grand-son, Otis Patterson of Great Valley, N. Y. He continued to live in Phelps until some time between 1815 and 1820, when he removed to Great Valley, Catteraugus Co., N. Y., where he was engaged in the farming and lumber business until his death 6 May 1845, which was the result of an accidental fall. He was noted as a man of sound judgment and great physical strength.[1]
