Biography

Born in Great Valley, New York 24 May 1834 to Nathan Jr and Nancy (Mudgett) Howe. Married Frederick James Harris in 1860 in Bradford, McKean, Pennsylvania. They lived in Great Valley[1] and had five children. She was living there with her husband in 1905, but was separated and living with her daughter Mary Jobe's family in 1910 and 1915 in Poland, Chatauqua, New York. She died Feb 7, 1917 and was buried in the Willoughby Cemetery in Great Valley, NY.

Emily was born in May 1834 in Great Valley, Cattaraugus Co., New York, USA. She was the daughter of Nathan Howe and Nancy P. Mudgett.[2]

When Emily was about 25 she married Frederick James Harris in 1860 in Bradford Twp., McKean County, Pennsylvania, USA. The couple had 4 children: Orpha Viola Harris, Mary Harris, Milton Harris and Allen Adelbert Harris.[2]

In 1870 Emily was living in Great Valley, Cattaraugus, New York, USA.[2]

In 1880 Emily was living in Great Valley, Cattaraugus, New York, USA.[2]

In 1900 Emily was living in Great Valley, Cattaraugus, New York, USA.[2]

In 1910 Emily was living in Poland, Chautauqua, New York, USA. Marital Status: Widowed; Marital Status: Married; Relation to Head of House: Mother-in-law[2]

On 1 June 1915 Emily was living in Poland, Chautauqua, New York, USA. Relation to Head of House: Mother-in-law[2]

Emily died at the age of 82 on 7 February 1917.[3][2]

Research Notes

The 1910 and 1915 censuses for Poland, Chautauqua, New York show Emily Jane (Howe) Harris living with her daughter Mary (Harris) Jobes' family and is listed as widowed. Her husband apparently lived until 1930. They were separated, as stated in the will of Frederick J. Harris dated April 20, 1912.
