Possible Errors in this Profile

This man may be connected to the wrong parents (Sampson Howe and Alice Perley), based on the 1753 marriage record that identifies the man who married Hannah Foot as "son of William & Maria of Vt."

The Howe Genealogies link this Samson to parents Capt. Samson and Alice (Perley) Howe. Samson and his brother Perley and sister Alice are cited in Capt. Samson Howe's will, dated 24 Jan 1736 and recorded in the Probate Records of Willimantic, Connecticut.

Both the Howe Genealogies and the Foote Genealogy list Hannah Foote's date of death as 2 March 1802, not 1817.

Biography

Samson Howe married Sarah Sabin on 29 December 1737. The Barbour Collection records for Middletown, Connecticut, include this marriage ("Howe, Sampson of Killingly, m. Sarah Sabin, Dec. 29, 1737"),[1] but Perley states that the marriage was in Thompson, Connecticut. Births of four children of Samson and Sarah Howe were recorded at Killngly;[2] they also appear in the records for Middletown, Connecticut. According to Perley, Sarah (Sabin) Howe died 10 Aug 1752 in Portland, Connecticut, in her 35th year;[3] the Barbour Collection shows that she died on that date in Middletown.[4] Apparently she died in the section of Middletown that was later set off as the town of Portland.

His second wife was Hannah Foot of Colchester, Connecticut. Their marriage was recorded at Middletown, Connecticut, on 5 April 1753.[5]

He and his wife removed to Williamstown, Vermont, where the 1790 U.S. Census recorded Samson How as head of a household consisting of one adult male and one female. Perley How (his son) was also in Williamstown, head of a household of one adult male, two males under 16, and four females.[6]

Hannah (Foot) Howe survived her husband, dying in Williamstown, Vermont, on 12 July 1817 at the age of 97.[7]
