Gentleman and heir, of Emble, Stogumber, and of Bishop's Lydeard, County of Somerset.
He was the only son and heir apparent of John Howe, of St Helen's, Bishopgate, London.
He was named sole executor of his father's Will on 14 May 1574, and succeeded to his father's estate on 27 May 1574. He was 18 years of age at the time of his father's death, as appears by inquisition taken at Taunton, County of Somerset, on 5 May 1576.
He was named Executor in the Will of his mother-in-law, Eleanor Treble Grobham, dated 1 September (36Eliz) 1594, Proved on 25 October 1594 (PCC 67 Dixy). It in, she mentions her eldest son Richard Grobham, her sons John and youngest son George Grobham, her daughters Joan Howe and Grace Grobham, her son-in-law John Howe, her brother-in-law Robert Grobham, and the children of her daughter Joan Howe: Elizabeth, Agnes, John, George and Laurence Howe.
'In 1626 it was granted to Sir William and Sir George Whitmore, who had both been lessees of the estate. In 1627 George conveyed the manor, but not the castle, to Sir Richard Grobham, husband of his sister Margaret. Grobham died in 1629 leaving his widow in possession with remainder to his nephew George Grobham of Broomfield. George died probably in 1646, and in 1652 John Howe the elder, husband of Sir Richard's sister and heir Jane, together with a Richard Grobham, were apparently in possession of the estate. The manor continued in the Howe family, probably with little land, descending from John and Jane Howe to their son John (cr Bt 1660), to Sir John's son Sir Richard Grobham Howe (d by 1703), and to Sir Richard's son and namesake (d 1730), owner in 1704-5. No further reference to the manor has been found.'[1]
On 10 December 1625 he was Granted Arms, by Sir William Segar, Garter.
In 1582 he married Joan Grobham and they had six children. The Visitation of England and Wales notes he married Joan Grobham before 15 April 1585.
He was living on 13 September 1630, when he was mentioned in the Will of his sister-in-law, Grace Grobham.
