John James Howe and his family lived in Onehunga [1] and then from 1875, John James Howe moved to Hamilton as a blacksmith working for Vialou & Co. in Hamilton. [2]
On the 17th Feb. 1881 in the Waikato Times[3] the announcement was made that "Messrs J.C. O'Garar and John James Howe have taken over the wheelwright and blacksmith business successfully carried out by Mr. I.R.Vialou, who has given up the business."
NOTICE
JAMES CHARLES O'GARAR begs to inform the public that he has taken over the Wheelwright's and Coach Painting Business from Mr Vialou, who has retired, and all work entrusted to his care will receive prompt attention. J. O'G. who has been with Mr Vialou for 8 years, trusts that with moderate charges and good workmanship, to receive a share of that support which has been so liberally bestowed upon the late proprietor.
IN addition to the above, JOHN JAMES HOWE has much pleasure in informing the inhabitants of Hamilton and surrounding districts, that he has taken over the Blacksmith, Shoeing Forge, and Veterinary-surgeon's department of the business carried on by Mr Vialou, who has retired. He hopes that the public will give him a share of their support, and nothing on his part will be left undone to merit a continuance of that confidence which his late employer vested in him for upwards of six years.
by 1901 John James Howe had moved to Mauku in South Auckland. [4]
