According to the book Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical Memoirs relating to the Families of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, vol. 4, page 1890, prepared under the supervision of William Richard Cutter, A. M., NEHGS historian, Thomas Howe, son of Abraham, survived and moved to Kennebunk, Maine and later Barrington, New Hampshire.. He attributes it to "family tradition."
The Howe Genealogies, vol. 2, page 10 list Thomas Howe's death as 4 Oct 1734. It is backed up by a gravestone in Boston's Central Burying Ground. inscribed "Thomas, son of Abraham Howe and Hannah.
Thomas Howe of Maine and New Hampshire certainly existed. The only question is whether or not he was the son of Abraham and Hannah, as tradition suggests. Unless further evidence is found, they are treated here as two different Thomas Howes born to the same parents.
