Note: Rena Viola was born at Wallace, Nebraska. In 1924, she attended Grand Island Business College and married in Frank B. Smith in 1925 and moved to Gordon, Nebraska. They were separated in 1929 and she moved to Wallace with her son James. In 1932 she married Vance L. Cox at her home in Wallace. Attendants were Opal Howe & Virgil Spann. Son James carried the rings. Vance was born at Sutherland, Ne. After graduation in 1925, Vance went to work for A.T. & T. in Chicago. Returning to Ne. he worked in the lumber and hardware business. He worked in Merna, Ne. and Sioux City, Ia. The family moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1942 where Vance worked at the Douglas County Flour & Feed Mill until 1957. He owned Miller & Cox Irrigation Sales & Service until August 7, 1959. His stored was demolished by the explosion of a dynamite truck which devastated most of downtown Roseburg. He later worked for the Glide Public Schools and Umpqua Valley Hardware. While at Roseburg, Rena was employed by Glide High School as head cook. She worked there for seven years. They moved to White City, Oregon, in Dec 1963 where Vance was employed by Carolina Pacific Plywood Co. Vance and Rena were members of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star of Merna, Nebraska. They were managers of the Ship Ashore Motel in Smith River, California from June 1968 to June 1975. They moved to Redding, Ca. in 1975 where they retired. Vance passed away 15 Feb 1976.
