The entire page in 1880 said birthplace and parents birthplaces NC, with exception of one England and one Ireland. All parents had same birthplace reported as their children.
There was an 18-year-old black, Washington McNeely, with his family in 1880.
In response to Max M.Howie, I have done research on the Howie, Howey family, as I am a descendent also. I have found in the "Heritage of Union County North Carolina Book (Centennial) 1842-1992", a mention of Robert Howie. It states that John Howey settled in Mecklenberg in 1770, and thru his son George, his son in law William Howie, and Robert Howie, the Howeys & Howies of Union County came to be.
It also states that William Howie 1759-1819 born in Scotland married Elizabeth Howey 1766-1819 of Mecklenberg County, NC. Their children were Ann Howie 1791-?, Margaret Howie 1793-?, John Howie 1796-1856, Robert Howie 1798-1845, William Stewart Howie 1803-1839, Elizabeth Milligan Howie 1806-1881, Mary E. Howie 1810-1875. There is also a family tree chart by the Carolina Genealogical Society, Monroe, NC, showing a Mary Howey 3-1-1762 married Robert Howie (or John Cry). While these dates may not be exact as to what you are seeking, they may be a generation off. This family used same names each generation it seems, and the
Howie & Howey names seem to be intermingled through out generations. There is much more in this book about Winchesters, Wolfes, Penagers,(various spellings), Stephensons, Orr's Osborne's, McCorkles, Bicketts (various spellings) as well as Howie's & Howeys. These are the family names in my history. Hope this helps you, Nell,
