Mayflower Descendant of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley

Biography

Birth and parents

Elizabeth Howland, daughter of Mayflower passengers John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, was born say 1631 in Plymouth Colony.[1] 1631 is an estimate based on her first marriage in 1649 and her presumed birth order from the 1672 will of father. He names her third among the grouping of his daughters and calls her Elizabeth Dickenson.

Marriages

Elizabeth married 13 Sep 1649, in Plymouth, Ephraim Hicks[2]He was the son of Robert Hicks[1]. Her first husband died "a violent death" a few months after their marriage, 12 Dec 1649.[3]

Elizabeth Hicks, widow of Ephraim, m. John Dickenson 10 July 1651 in Plymouth.[2] This has led some to believe that the wife of Dickenson was a Hicks by birth, d/o Ephraim's father, Robert.

After her Dickenson husband's death, she deeded Oyster Bay land to John Underhill in 1684 and to her son Samuel in November 10 1688.[4]

Death and Will

Mayflower Births and Deaths says Elizabeth died 1683 in Oyster Bay, New York.[5], but this seems to be incorrect as Elizabeth made a will dated 10 Sep 1691.

"In the name of God, amen. I Elizabeth Dickinson widow, of Oyster Bay, in Queen's Co., on Long Island, and in the Colony of New York, being somewhat weakly and sick but perfect memory and understanding, praised be to God, I now make my last will and testament, as followeth: ... I give to my son Jobus my house and lot ... and at my son Jobus his decease, all this that I have given him I do give to my eldest son Joseph, him and his heirs forever. I give to my son Samuel five shares of land at the planes ... I give to my son James twothirds, or two rights of three in the Old Purchase of Oyster Bay ... my right of commonage belonging to my home lot I give to my three sons Samuel, Jobus and James equally between them ... I give to my daughter Hannah my bed ... I give to my grandson Robert or Richard Harcut two sheep. All the residue of my estate I give to my youngest daughters Mehetable, Cheshire and Hannah ... my son Joseph ... executor ... 10th Sept 1691."[6]

I am new to genealogy research. My grandmother is a Dickinson and I traced her family back to Elizabeth Dickinson, she is my 8th Great Grandmother. This research is very interesting and a bit overwhelming.

Howland-171 and Howland-1070 appear to represent the same person because: These two profile are certainly one and the same. Even the links in the BIO section of Howland-1070 direct to Howland-171

Please, PLEASE merge. Having this extra profile caused me to nearly miss the existence of the rest of her family.

Could someone please merge Howland 1070 to this profile? I would do it, but I'm not great at post-merge clean up and this page is too pretty :) I went looking for this person (actually father), and when I found 1070 first, I thought perhaps there was a Mayflower passenger yet undocumented and nearly set to work documenting!
Howland-1206 and Howland-1148 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents so same person. Not sure where the death date difference comes from as there is no source data listed on 2d one. Please merge.

Thx!
