When William Olney Howland was born on August 12, 1856, in Killingly, Connecticut, his father, Angelo Howland, was 27 and his mother, Harriet Backus (Goodell) Howland, was 27. He married Anna Pratt Bishop on December 24, 1885, in Chester, Pennsylvania. They had two children during their marriage. He died on January 3, 1936, in Chester, Pennsylvania, at the age of 79.

Whitaker, no known relation. Also in home were his nephew Harry A. Taylor and niece Harriet M. Taylor, and boarder Emma A. Nichols.

Howland, age 9, born in Rhode Island, and his grandmother, Mary L. Howland, age 78, born in Vermont.[5]

WILLIAM O. HOWLAND

Stricken ten days ago with a heart ailment, William O. Howland, husband of the late Mrs. Anna Bishop Howland, died last night at his home, 837 East Fourteenth street. He was in his seventy-ninth year.

Born in Rhode Island, deceased came to this city when a young man and entered business for himself on East Sixth street. Prior to his death he was a member of the firm of Howland-Bridge Company, 612 East Sixth street. His late wife was the originator of the Chester Day Nursery and was a widely known church and charity worker for her commendable accomplishments. In this city she was given the Kiwanis Medal for Service several years ago. Mrs. Howland died in June, 1934. Deceased was a member of the L. H. Scott Lodge, No. 352, F. and A. M., and was also affiliated with the Penn Club.

Mr. Howland is survived by two children, James A. Howland, of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Gertrude H. Megonigal, of this city; one brother, Fred Howland, of this city, and two grandchildren, James A. Howland, Jr., and Anna Louise Megonigal. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.[18]
