When Ruth Ann Howland was born in January 1850 in Southbridge, Massachusetts, her father, Allen Howland, was 22 and her mother, Sarah A. (Mathewson) Howland, was 23. She lived in Southbridge, Massachusetts, in 1850 and moved to Webster, Massachusetts, sometime between 1850 and 1860. She had one brother.

Mrs. Ruth A. Bowdish died of influenza, toxemia, and catarrhal jaundice at her age of 69 years, 2 months and 24 days on 29 March 1919 in Douglas, Worcester County, Massachusetts.^[1]
