Thomas was born around December 1791 in the small Hamlet of Orlestone, six miles south of the Town of Ashford, District of Ashford, in Kent, England. He is the son of Richard Howland and Eleanor Richards. ^[1]

His baptism takes place on the 11 January 1792 at the Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Church Lane (east side), in the small Hamlet of Orlestone, six miles south of the Town of Ashford, District of Ashford, in Kent, England^[2][3].

Marriage

Thomas (Howland) marries Sophia (Bram) on the 12 October 1817 at the Parish Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, in the Village of Ruckinge, about 5.5 miles south of the Town of Ashford, Parish of Ruckinge, in the District of Ashford, Kent, England.

We find Thomas, on the night of the Census Record of 1841, living with his wife, Sophia (Bram), along with children Thomas William, William, Stephen and Eleanor (Howland). They reside at the Hamlet of Orlestone, six miles south of the Town of Ashford, District of Ashford, in Kent, England^[5]. By 1851, the family are living at Ham Mill House, Ham Street, in the Hamlet of Orlestone, District of Ashford, in Kent, England. Thomas and Sophia reside there with children Thomas William, Stephen, Eleanor "Ellen" and Sarah "Sally" (Howland)^[6]. However, with the arrival of the Census of 1861, Thomas has lost his wife Sophia (Bram) and is living as a widower with his children Thomas William and Sarah "Sally" (Howland). They are still at Ham Mill House in Orlestone, Kent, England^[7].

Occupation

The Census of 1841 records Thomas' occupation as being an Agricultural Labourer and it seems he continues in this employment throughout his life.

Death/Burial

Thomas (Howland) passes away around the 25 October 1864, possibly at Ham Mill House, Ham Street, in the Hamlet of Orlestone, District of Ashford, in Kent, England. He was 72 years old at the time and the cause of death will be on his Certificate^[8]. His burial takes place on the 29 October 1864 at the Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Church Lane (east side), in the small Hamlet of Orlestone, six miles south of the Town of Ashford, District of Ashford, in Kent, England^[9][10].
