I was born 24 July 1928, at St Lukes Hospital, San Francisco, Ca. I weighed 4 lbs. 7 oz. [Preemie] I contracted Pneumonia and almost died, but was brought back to good health by a great nurse,my Mother. We moved from San Francisco to Antioch in 1938 where my father was part owner of a Hardware Store. I worked there after school and weekends. I graduated from Antioch High in 1945 [3 years] . My senior year was spent at Pomona College, Claremont,Ca. I was not well prepared for College at age 17, competing with WW II vets. I then enrolled at Menlo College, was there for a year, when my father needed me in the hardware store. My future bride worked as a Legal Secretary in a office in the same building as the Hardware Store. . We were Married 23 July 1950 [My birthday present] 11 Nov 1950, I was drafted Nov 1950 and took basic training at Camp Roberts. I was sent to Fort Ord for the Clerk School. I returned to Camp Roberts, assigned to the Gen,Hdqs Co, 7th Armored Div. MRU section. Our office kept track of all incoming and outgoing soldiers. Received a commendation from Hdqs 4th Army Presidio for our work. I was recommended for Officers Training School, but declined. Advanced to Sgt and was available for overseas duty. With 6 month before discharge, I was given a Cruise, from Seattle to Yokohama, Japan. Then a tour by train to see the beauty of Japan [Hiroshima] with people still living in caves and tunnels to Sasebo, and then a ferry ride overnite to Pusan. I was assigned to Gen.Hdqs in Pusan, with regards to POW camps and detainees. I returned home in time for Discharge [11 Nov 1952] on th SS Gen. Howze.. Not quite named for me. I went back to work for my Father, became a Partner of sorts. I did the work at the store, he worked at the bar. 1954 we had a home built and lived there about 50 years. 1960, I cashed in my partnership for $1.00 and went to work as a teller for Bank of America. One year later I became a Bank Auditor. I traveled from Bakersfield to the Oregon border. I did this for 5 years, then assigned as Assistant Bank Manager at several branches . I was able to attend Night classes at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, and obtained my AA Degree. I retired from the bank in August 1983, age 55. I forced my wife to retire 2 years later and we sold our home in Antioch, and moved to our 2nd home which I had been building for a good 10 years[weekends & vacations] in Pioneer We traveled the United States and Alaska in our Pick-up and camper. When we visited my wife's hometown and the cemetery with dozens of her family interred there, we got the genealogy bug. We traveled to the LDS Mormen Library in Salt Lake City, taking our 5th wheel trailer, staying in a near by trailer park, weeks at a time. We also traveled to various sections of the country visiting Libraries;seeing where our ancestors lived and visiting with "cousins". We have had a great retirement. Traveled the U.S. ; been to England twice, toured the areas of my ancestors, and have taken a tour with SIRS to Germany,Austria & Switzerland. </ref
