Biography

David Franklin Huddleston is the son of William Berry Huddleston (abt.1794-1868) and Mary Jane (Howard) Huddleston (abt.1806-aft.1880) ^[1].

There is some controversy about David's birth year. His headstone uses the date of 9 May 1826. That cannot be correct as his older brother, John, was born on 2 Mar 1826. The 1850 census clearly has David at age 13 (birth year about 1836-1837). The 1860 census clearly has David at age 24 (birth year about 1836). The 1870 census cannot be found. The 1880 census clearly has David at age 46 (birth year about 1834) and 14 years older than his wife). When the 1900 census came out, Davids' age is given as 73 and a birthdate of May 1827, now 20 years older than his wife. In the 1910 census, David's age is given as 80 (birth year about 1830 and now 18 years older than his wife. The 1920 census lists David's age as 93 (birth year about 1827 and 19 years older than his wife. It almost seems like David was just making up numbers. Their first child, Missouri, was born 9 Sep 1862. If the 1880 census is correct, that would make David's wife pregnant at age 13 by a 32 year old man, and although possible, probably not true. The 1850 and 1860 census reports with ages given by the parents, a birth year of 1836 seems more correct than any other year.

According to the 1900 census, David married Lucinda Melvina (Reynolds) Huddleston (1844-1924) in 1863 ^[2]. David and Lucinda had fourteen known children ^[3][4].
