Biography

Jonas Meador married Frances sometime around 1720 and probably in Essex County, Virginia. Her birth date is an estimate assuming she was 2-4 years younger than Jonas. Most researchers indicate Frances was a Hudgens. Less reliable sources maintain she may have been an Anderson. No known marriage record has been located.

Frances and Jonas left Essex Co. and originally settled in a part of Essex Co. that became Caroline County in 1728, near today's town of Penola, VA. About 1750-1752 they followed some of their sons to Cumberland County, where they lived the balance of their lives. They raised nine children.

Jonas Meador died in 1768 but Frances died prior to 25 September 1780 when her will was proven in Cumberland, Virginia, United States.

Regarding the phrase, "Most researchers indicate Frances was a Hudgens. Less reliable sources maintain she may have been an Anderson." It may be more accurate to say that most researchers USE the name Hudgens, while others maintain she may have been an Anderson. I don't believe there are sources for any maiden name; they are all best guesses. The frequently used compilation "THE DESCENDANTS OF JONAS AND FRANCES MEADOR OF ESSEX, CAROLINE AND CUMBERLAND COUNTIES, VIRGINIA found at https://www.ajlambert.com/robinson/desc_jfm.pdf simply states that she may have been a Hudgens.
