Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Robert Hudson was a Virginia colonist.

Robert Hudson is considered by many to be the progenitor HUDSONS OF CHESTERFIELD.[1]

Hudson Family Association Bulletin;b 95, p 81; Rozelle Hudson;

parents, birth place Robert Hudson was born about 1662 in Henrico County
VA and died post (after) 9 Oct 1731 in Henrico Co VA. He used the capital
"R" as his mark. After his father's death Robert Hudson, along with his
brothers Richard and William, was the ward of Thomas Poulden of Henrico
Co. On 1 December 1688 he paid his brother Richard Hudson1600 pounds
tobacco for the latter's share of the plantation at Roxdale which their
father had devised them by his will of 25 Oct 1669. The plantation was
the land their father had received from his father-in-law Bowman. It was
in the possession of Thomas Poulden at the time. On 25 May 1681 in a
deposition in Henrico County court, Robert Hudson gave his age as 19. He
replaced William Hatcher as constable in Henrico County on 16 May 1692.
He and John Bowman were the witnesses to livery and seizied of a deed
from Timothy Allen Jr to William Soane in Henrico County on 20 Aug 1695.
When his younger brother William died, he and Philip Jones were the
securities for his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hudson on 1 Nov 1701. On 23
Mar 1703, Thomas Powland Sr of Henrico Co sold Edward Standley 235 acres
on the north side of Swift Creek next to Robert Hudson for 3 pounds. It
was part of a larger grant to him. On the same day he sold 235 acres to
Robert Hudson on the north side of Swift Creek for 3 pounds. The deed was
recorded 01 April 1704. According to the 1704 quit rent roll, Robert
owned 281 acres. Since he had recent purchased 235 acres, his inheritance
from his father may have amounted to 23 acres. He had earlier purchased
his brother's share. On 2 Nov 1705, Robert Hudson and Thomas Polland Jr
patented 940 acres in Henrico County, VA, on the north side of Swift
Creek. The tract had originally been granted to Thomas Polland on 15 Oct
1698 who had deserted it. On 22 Nov 1707 William Byrd of Charles City
County, VA, Esquire, sold for 250 pounds to Robert Hudson, planter, of
Henrico Co a 46 acre tract at Roxdale where the said Hudson lived. Robert
and Thomas Powlan, Jr., divided their 940 acre plantation equally betwen
themselves on 5 March 1708. Hudson received the upper part. Robert sold
Edward Stanley for 5 pounds a plantation on the north side of Swift Creek
containing 135 acres on 30 Oct 1709. On 31 Aug 1710 Philip Jones and
Robert Hudson sought to be discharged as securities for Elizabeth the
wife of Daniel Fore for her administration of the estate of her late
husband, William Hudson. Robert Hudson and John Ferguson patented 400
acres on both sides of Swift Creek in Henrico County (Virginia) on 17 Aug
1725. They paid 40 shillings for the tract. They 200 acres of the tract
at the Beaver Ponds on Swift Creek to Robert Hudson, Jr for 20 pounds on
6 June 1726. They sold another 100 acres for 10 pounds to Henry Hudson of
Henrico County on 6 Jun 1726. On 19 May 1730, Robert Hudson Sr of Henrico
sold the plantation at Roxdale where he was living to his son John Hudson
for 30 pounds. Robert was still living there on 9 Oct 1731 when his son
sold the property to Samuel Hudson for 50 pounds. While it is not
possible to learn when Robert Hudson died, he was nearly 70 years of age
at this time and probably did not survive much longer.

In 1688 (month is difficult to read), Richard Hudson sells to his brother Robert Hudson, for 1,600 pounds of tobacco, his part of a tract and plantation at Roxdale, now in possession of Thomas Poland, which he and his brothers William and Robert inherited from their father, Richard Hudson, deceased, by his will dated 25 October 1669, which says "my will is that the land given me by my father Bowman be equally divided between my three sons". Richard Hudson further states that "Mary my wife shall & will relinquish to my brother Robert Hudson...all her dower claim" (Henrico, Virginia Record Book 1688-1697, page 29, image 301).

Hudson-4162 and Hudson-752 appear to represent the same person because: These are *clearly* the same person. The mother for 4162 is a duplicate of the wife - the birth dates of "mother and son" are only 11 years apart. Highly unlikely, even back then. Please do not hold up the merge because of this. Thanks.

Hudson-752 and Hudson-4162 are not ready to be merged because: someone needs to check the mothers. They are significantly different.

Hudson-4162 and Hudson-752 are not ready to be merged because: 4162 has a son Isaac Hudson while 752 does not show that son. Also bothersome to a lesser extent is the mothers of Robert appear to be completely different.

Hudson-4162 and Hudson-752 appear to represent the same person because: Same person; Hudson-4162 has not been touched in over one year.

Hudson-2374 and Hudson-752 are not ready to be merged because: DOB are off by 21 years, information only supported via Ancestry Public Trees. Hudson-2370's daughter Martha married a Ward Hudson? Her DOB or spouse do not match Hudson-752's daughter Martha. This appears to be internet misinformation commonly found at Ancestry.com. It appears a majority of information that came from this PM gedcom needs to be reviewed. Perhaps, this is the reason that PM has been inactive?
