Martha's mother died of Typhoid Fever just a few short months after Martha's 16th birthday. The family had moved from Georgia to Texas around 1850. Young Martha traveled by packet boat from New Orleans to Indianola and then by stage to Gonzales. Her father's large plantation was located about one mile east of the present town of Luling, TX, in Caldwell County (adjacent to and once part of Gonzales County, TX.)
Martha was born in 1842. Martha was the child of Leonard Huff and Ann Chambers. Martha passed away in 1913. [1]
