Edmond was born in 1859 in Marion Township, Iowa the eldest child of William Huff and Almira Walker. He was three years old when his father enlisted in the Army.
Enlistment and service of his father are described in letters to his Mother (Mira). Letters transcribed in book, "Compilation of Letters to Mira, Documenting the Army Life of an Ordinary Soldier While Serving in the 20th Iowa Infantry Regiment 1862-1865"
He moved with his parents to Jasper County, Missouri after his father was mustered out of the Army.
He moved to Kansas and on 1 Oct 1890 married Ella Cramer in Narka, Republic, Kansas.

He was elected constable for Albion Township and a member of the anti-horsethief association.
