JAMES MADISON AND ELIZABETH HUFF OF TN, AR, MO AND TX
James Madison HUFF (1802 TN - not listed 1880 TX) apparently went to AR with his parents about 1830. He md Elizabeth ??????? parents not known, and started a family in AR, then moved to TX during the 1840 decade. Sometimes he was recorded as HOUGH, sometimes as HUFFS, and sometimes as HUFF. Likewise, he can be found as James or as Madison. His ch as reconstructed from census records incl:
1. Samuel (1831 AR - ) in 1860 had a child Elizabeth (1855 MO), but a probable sister Nelly MARTIN (1836 MO) was keeping house for him. In 1880, he may have been in Coryell Co, TX.
2. Polly (1832 AR - ). She may have been recorded as Elizabeth in 1860. In 1870, Elizabeth DEVERS and her son were with Madison and Elizabeth HUFF. In 1880, Elizabeth's husband was Philip ?KISER?, and her mother lived in her hh in Coryell Co, TX.
3. Nelly (1835 AR - ) md ?????? MARTIN, but she was keeping house for Samuel HUFF in 1860.
4. Hannah (1837 AR - ) on 1 Jan 1859 md P. BAILEY as Hannah HOUGH. In 1870, Hannah WALICE and her son were with Madison and Elizabeth.
5. Peter (Oct 1835 AR/MO - ) seems to be the Peter HUFF who lived in Wilson Co, TX, in 1880 and in Bexar Co in 1900. He moved to TX when he was 13. He was a Confederate soldier in Texas who after the War md Mary J. PAYNE (Mar 1844 TX - ) and their ch incl Mahala; Ellen; King; Adella; Mandy (twin); Merian (twin); and Peter.
6. James (1849 TX - may have d. young.)
7. John (1853 AR/MO - ) This may be John HUFF of Mclennan Co, TX, in 1880.
8. James Madison (Mar 1854 MO - ) md Susan ?????? and lived in and around Blanco Co, TX. Ch incl Martin; Maggie Ann; Coleman H.; Bettie; Virginia A.; Ellis; Annie; and Marvin.
The 1860 census record is almost like that of a different family. All ch were shown as born in MO except James. Peter was shown as born in 1834, James in 1849, John in 1853, and Madison in 1855. It is possible that the family did go to MO for a few years in the 1850 decade.
Huff lineage is James Madison and Elizabeth ( ) of TN, AR, TX, and possibly MO; prob. Samuel and questionably Phoebe ( ) of VA, TN, AR, and MO;

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
