Biography

Mathew Huff (bp 16 Dec 1716 MD - 1 May 1740) was the son of John Huff and Hannah or Anna MORGAN (c 1790 - 20 Apr 1740 MD) parents not known.

He received a 100 acre tract bought from Charles HYNSON, called "Hynson's Chance." He was not listed in the next of kin in 1740, however, his father's will included the phrase "heirs forever," suggesting he may have been md. Indeed, he may have been the one who md ??? JACOBS, and having four ch.. (In 1726, John HUFF had been witness to the 26 Aug will of Elizabeth GATENBY, proved 16 Nov 1731, in which she bequeathed to her husband William GATENBY and his heirs lands including Hynson's Haven. There seemed to be several lots of HYNSON property.)

  • Research by Capt. Earle Huff, The Hough and Huff Family in England and America, in Library of Congress. Capt. Huff did not list a single descendant of John and Hannah who used the surname Hough, nor was he able to document any relationship to anyone of that surname.
