At the home of the bride's parents, 704 North Bright street, on Thursday evening occurred the marriage of Matthew Kirkwood and Miss Myrtie Huff. The ceremony was performed in the parlor of the residence at 7:30 o'clock by Rev. Dr. W. F. Gillmore, of Grace M. E. church. Only a few of the intimate friends and the relatives of the bride and groom were present to witness tbe nuptial event. After the mariiage ceremony a wedding supper was served. The bride was attired in a pretty gown of blue henrietta with trimmings of cream ribbon and lace. Relatives from out of the city in attendance were Mrs. Henry Zinn and Mrs. M. J. Huff, of Cerro Gordo; Mrs. Uriah Edgecomb and Frank Edgecomb of Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Edgecomb of LaPlace. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Huff and is known to a large circle of friends. The groom is a teamster and is known to his friends as a worthy and industrious young man. He has provided a home for his bride at 439 South Broadway street where the couple will take up their residence at once.
Obituary - Herald and Review, Decatur, Illinois, 12 Jun 1949 Mrs. Matthew Kirkwood, 71, of 345 West Packard street, died in the Macon county Tuberculosis sanatorium at 8:50 a. m. yesterday. She had been a patient in the sanatorium for the last five weeks. She was born March 20, 1878, in Crawford County, Kan., a daughter of George and Harriett Huff. She was married Nov. 3, 1898 to Matthew Kirkwood in Decatur. She was a member of the Grace Methodist church; the Queen Ann chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Seattle, Wash.; Royal Neighbors camp 129, Decatur, and the Women's Benefit association. She leaves her husband; four sons, Harold of Seattle, Wash.; Roy of Champaign, Eugene of Aberdeen, Wash.; Charles of Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Harriett Reed and Mrs. Dorothy Swam, both of Decatur; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Murphy of Roberts, Mrs. Alma La Orange of Great Bend, Kan., and Mrs. Mayme Hart of Chicago, and a brother, James Huff of Oreana. The body was taken to Monson's funeral home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of Eugene Kirkwood from Washington.
