1850: Lived in Bear Creek Township, [12] Hancock Co., IL, at age 11, with parents, John Huff, age 51 and Susan, age 47, and siblings: William B, age 13; Ellen, age 9; John, age 7; Malachi, age 5; and Josephus, age 4, all born in IL. [13]
1880: Lived in Basco ([2] quoted in: [5]), Bear Creek, Hancock, IL, at age 42 as a farmer with his wife, Rebecca, and his three sons: Liman B, age 18; Charles F., age 17; William T, age 16. All the boys where farm hands as well as attended school, at the 6 grade level. [1]
1880 Summary in History of Hancock County, by Gregg:
"When he had attained his majority he married Miss Rebecca Bryant at Carthage, and settled on his farm near the same city. In two years he sold out and purchased a farm near Basco and lived there six years engaged in stock trading, he again sold out and moved upon the Quincy & Carthage road, five miles from Basco, where he farmed two years, and in 1871 he moved on to the farm where he now lives, which is valued at $3,000; he also owns property in Basco. Mr. and Mrs. Huff have 3 children; viz Lyman B., born Nov. 29, 1861; Charles F., born December 28, 1862 and William L., August 20, 1863. Mrs. Huff has been a member of the M.E. Church 12 years. Mr. H. is an Odd Fellow." [2] (quoted in: [5])
1907: Quoted from Biographical review of Hancock County, Illinois:
"... J. E. and Rebecca (Bryant) Huff, the former born in 1837 and the latter in 1840. His (father) , who came from North Carolina, settled on the first farm which was developed between Carthage and Basco, known as the old Huff place and J. E. Huff has been an active farmer of Hancock county for many years and now conducts a livery and hoted business in Basco. The Huffs have always been advocates of the democracy but have never been aspirants for office and both Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Huff are devoted members of the Methodist church. In their family were three sons : Lymon, who is living in Basco; Charles, who was telegraph operator at Golden, Illinois, for a number of years but is now deceased; and W. T." [6]
1910: Lived in Bear Creek Township, Hancock, IL, at age 72 and still married to Rebecka, who will die in January the following year. [10]
2nd Marriage: to Serena or Ferena R. REEVES or REEVE (DOZER), (1844—1925) at age 79, on 15 Sept 1917 in Hancock, IL [5][18][3]
1920: Lived in Basco Village, Bear Creek Township, Hancock, IL as a widow [19]
Basco, a village in the township of Bear Creek was incorporated in 1886. Over all, Bear Creek, Hancock population was under 1000 and slowly would decrease: (1890: 983, 1900: 978, 1910: 935, 1920: 886) [11] In 2010 Bear Creek Township was 345 [20], Basco village being 98. [21]

Buried: South Basco Cemetery, Basco, Bear Creek Township, Hancock Co., IL on 23 May 1922 [7][3][5]
