Sophia was a daughter of Daniel Huff, who was born in Virginia, and Mary Walden, who was born in Tennessee.^[1] She married Dr. Jefferson Monroe Harbison (1832–1901) in 1861. Sophia's mother was also known or recorded as Mary "Polly" Wallen, and was a daughter of John Wallin (1777 - 1852) and Jerusha (Renfro) Wallin, or Jerucia Wallin (1786 - 1842) (Jerusha having been a daughter of James Renfro (1763 - 1836) and Charity Ann Huff (1763 - 1831).

Sophia died in a Knoxville General Hospital as a non-resident of the area. Her former or usual residence was Cumberland Gap, Claiborne County, Tennessee. She was buried in the Old Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee.
