Biography

Isaiah HUFF (3 Feb 1793 Cocke County, Tennessee - 18 Jul 1855 Saline Co, Missouri) was the son of Peter and Elizabeth (?Stephens?) of Virginia and Tennessee.

On 13 May 1813 in Tennessee he married Elizabeth CHRISTIAN (2 Sep 1794 TN - 5 June 1860 Saline Co, MO) and began their family in Tennessee.

By family tradition, Isaiah and Peter HUFF, his brother, moved from Tennessee by flatboat in 1816 to Cambridge twp, Saline Co, Missouri. Some of the children born after that year showed state of birth as Tennessee, so it is likely that the two went first without their families. When they had established their land claims, they moved their families.

8. Phineas E. HUFF (24 Aug 1829 MO - 23 Dec 1859, will of 10 Jan 1860 in Saline Co) md but the name of his wife is not known. She died 24 Dec 1859, apparently without ch. Phineas was executor of his father's will along with Herbert B. GWINN. His own estate was divided among his brothers and sisters or their heirs. (The will for Phineas E. HUFF may have been misread by some researchers as Thomas E. HUFF. There was a will of 1 Sep 1859 made by Phineas E. or Thomas E., more likely Phineas. It bequeathed to his brothers and sisters.)
