1823
24 January - "Last Will of Thomas Hughes Esq.", Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States.[17]
4 February - "Death of Maj Thomas Hughes(73)", Jefferson, Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States. He was buried at Jefferson Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Jefferson, Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States.[18]
From the Swan-Hughes Family Bible records and the Probate records, we have a fairly good understanding of the family of Thomas Hughes and the birth dates of his children. There are a number of Thomas Hughes households listed in the C1790 for Washington, Pennsylvania but only one seems to fit such a large family. Incidentally, that Thomas Hughes is listed adjacent to two other Huges families both James Hughes, one of which is noted as a (Black Family). The other James Hughes household is likely Thomas' brother, James Kaighn Hughes(abt.1750-bef.1825). From the good expected family match and the note in this biography, "Thomas Hughes house was a participating safe house in the Underground Railroad", it seems likely to me that this C1790 is the correct one for this profile. Using this information, we can likely also identify later census records for the Thomas Hughes household. Source context often provides important clues.
