Howard Robard Hughes was born in Lancaster Missouri, the ninth of September, 1869. His parents were Felix Turner Hughes and Jean Amelia Summerlin Hughes.

He was an inventor. The father of Howard Hughes Jr., he invented the 64 tooth drill bit used to cut through hard rock while drilling for oil, it is still used today. The wealth he accumulated went to his son.
Ancestors
Howard R Hughes' earliest paternal American ancestor was Orlando Hughes, one of the four brothers who came from Wales about 1740 and settled in Goochland Co Virginia, where he obtained land grants. From Orlando and his wife, Elizabeth, the line of descent is traced through their son Anthony.
His son, Joshua William Hughes, and his wife, Martha Stayton Askins, were the grandparents of Howard Robard Hughes. *Note: the info above seems to contain an age discrepancy or gap between Anthony, son of Orlando who was born abt 1722 and his son Joshua W who was born b. 1808 [2]
