Reginald Karl Hughes (1914-1976) was a school teacher and was well known as a brass band musician in Nelson. The family lived in the schoolhouse at Spring Grove, where Reg was sole teacher for some years, before moving to the Wairau Valley in Marlborough and later to the North Island. Eventually they retired in Tauranga, where Reg died in 1976 and Rona in 1978.[1]
