Absalom Hull was born about 1821 in Kentucky. His parents, William and Elizabeth Hull, resided in Cumberland Co, KY in 1820. [1]
His name has various spellings including Absalom, Absalam, Absolum, Absolom, A. S. and S. A. The handwriting in the probate records is difficult to read, so there may be more variations.
S. A. Hull and Sarah Pilkington were married 25 Aug 1844 in Benton Co AL which was renamed Calhoun Co AL in 1858. [2] Her parents may have been John and Sarah Pilkinton who resided next to Sarah and Absalom in 1860 in St. Clair Co., AL. [3]
Private A. S. Hull, age 41 enlisted on 20 Mar 1862 as a member of Company H, 30th Alabama Regiment. [6]
Both Absalom and Sarah Hull died before the 1870 census. His estate was probated in St. Clair Co., AL and can be found in Probate Book Volume G, pages 384-388 and Volume I, pages 4-8. On 25 Apr 1870, the administrator requested that property be sold to pay debts. The probate papers included a list of heirs (his children) with their "supposed" ages, dated Aug or Oct 1869: John 21, Wm 19, Lucinda 13, Artimus 11, James 9, Absalan 6. These papers also state that William and Elizabeth Hull, the parents of A S Hull were alive and resided in Cleburne Co. AL. The estate was closed in Apr 1877 with a list of the heirs: Sarah E Marlow, William O B Hull, Artimesen Rhodes, Lucinda Weathers, John M Hull, Miss Abbie Hull of Cleburne Co AL and John C Hull who resided near Woodbury Post Office, Hill Co., TX.
